Facades
A wide variety of
Physical solutions
To ensure effective insulation, a breathable and water-repelling membrane must be placed under the facade finish and a vapour control or vapour barrier membrane must be placed on the warm side of the insulation. The implemented insulation material will determine which type of membrane is most suitable. A facade finish must be well ventilated, by creating an air cavity between the membrane and the facade finish. By using a reflective membrane like Miofol® 170AG or Polytex® 145AG, higher insulation scores can be realised without using a thick insulation package.
When working with an open facade, membranes should ideally be black, so they do not catch the eye behind the facade elements. However, this means the membrane is exposed to physical loads as well as UV radiation via sunlight.
Meuwissen Gerritsen has developed UV-resistant facade membranes for this specific purpose. When using them, it is important to know the distance between the facade components as well as the facade’s total open surface area.
If facades are subject to a higher risk of fire, it is recommended to use membranes that limit fire behaviour. In this case, Polytex® Fassade FR or Tyvek® Firecurb are the best solutions.
