For 70 years
our responsibility
Our heart is in protecting buildings as well as the planet for future generations. A responsibility we have taken and exuded for nearly 70 years. In everything we do. We look beyond our business. We are determined to leave behind a healthy, livable world, a foundation in which there is a future.
Today’s quality
set the standard for tomorrow
The use of high-quality technical construction membranes plays an essential role in protecting against elements such as cold, moisture, heat, rain and wind. These membranes significantly improve the sustainability of a structure, on the one hand through their insulating properties and reduction of energy consumption, and on the other hand by extending the service life of building structures. This is how we build a sustainable future together.
Innovation
from our lab
Although the current standard for technical construction membranes consists mainly of plastics, we do not dwell on the search for more sustainable alternatives. Our in-house product development department and laboratory are constantly working on finding innovative, sustainable solutions. We strive to improve the functionality of existing products, minimize the use of materials and promote circularity.

Small footprint
Big steps
We deliberately choose production in the Netherlands, according to strict environmental regulations, in order to minimize our carbon footprint. Changes in production and distribution, such as using over 900 solar panels and investing in energy-efficient technologies, underscore our commitment to environmental protection.
For example, our extrusion line is cooled with surface water from the Spaarne River, we use only LED lighting and have invested in low-energy air compressors and high-frequency chargers for our internal transport.
Despite efforts to reduce energy consumption, as a manufacturer we still have significant consumption in electricity. At times when our consumption is greater than we can generate ourselves, we purchase only green power. This is Dutch wind power with the eco-label of SMK (Stichting Milieukeur) This power is generated with the lowest possible CO2 emissions, so we minimize the environmental impact. Thus, demonstrably through certification, our entire power consumption is free of CO2 emissions.
Phasing out
Fossil fuels
For heating our site we have gas-fired plants. We aim to completely phase out fossil fuel consumption by 2030. The first steps in this were taken by heating the halls with infrared heating instead of traditional hot air heating.
In 2023 the go-ahead was given for investment in an all-electric steam boiler for heating two production lines. This will substantially reduce gas consumption by 2024 and bring us closer to our goal of completely eliminating fossil fuels.
Circular
pallet system
Because we distribute our products widely using pallets, we switched to a returnable pallet system. Our buyers pay a deposit for these pallets so that they represent a certain value and can be reused. With this return system, a huge reduction in one-time throw pallets has been achieved.

Recycled
raw materials & waste streams
We pay extra attention to separating our production waste so that it can be recycled into new raw materials. Through various containers, we separate our waste streams into six different types of waste.
Opting for lighter and sustainable packaging helps reduce the use of plastic in the industry. Whenever possible, our preference is to use recycled and sustainable sources for our raw materials. Even if it is not always the most economical option.
Together
we make a difference
Meuwissen Gerritsen is just a link in the bigger picture. But, like our products, seemingly small or simple adjustments can have a significant impact and can make all the difference. We believe this difference can only be made through collaboration.
For example, we choose to work as much as possible with local or else with European suppliers who are aware of their responsibility and want to make a sustainable contribution to the world, with an eye on tomorrow’s generations. We achieve this through strict procurement terms and conditions,in which a separate section is devoted to our sustainability requirements.
Meuwissen Gerritsen is “proud partner of Plastic Soup Foundation.” In doing so, we donate a portion of our sales to improving the environment and surroundings. As a manufacturer of plastic products, we are aware that plastics, especially disposable plastics, have a negative impact on people and the environment. Single-use plastics and plastic packaging are widely produced for a relatively short lifespan. Many times, these products find their way into the environment, oceans and landfills.
Even though our membranes are manufactured from plastic, our products are designed to last for decades and therefore not for fleeting one-time use. Building membranes reduce energy consumption and remain part of a building for a very long time. Meuwissen Gerritsen strongly supports reduction in single use plastics and the fight to keep our environment and nature plastic free. Since 2023, we have been an official partner of the Plastic Soup Foundation. The Plastic Soup Foundation is an innovative nonprofit organization working daily to stop plastics in the environment at the source.
